Dates for your diary
Nursery is open all year round, apart from the week between Christmas, New Year and Bank Holidays.
Our next Staff Training and Development date will be Monday 4th January 2027 and nursery will be closed to all children.
Farmyard Friends Christmas party will be held on Saturday 5th December from 11am -1pm. Further information will come out closer to the date.
Our next parent and carer evening will be on Tuesday 10th November 2026, 5.45 - 7pm. A booking system will be available closer to the time.
Little Pop Photographer is visiting on Wednesday 14th October.
We access the East Riding Mobile Library service once a month when it visits the village.
Moo Music sessions continue alternate Thursdays moving forward.
In 2026 we have enjoyed and are looking forward to the following visits:
January: Fossil Feet – learning all about fossils.
February: Hornsea Inshore Rescue.
March: Peel Vets, Hornsea. Dental Nurse visit.
April: Hettie visited with three baby lambs.
May: Beverley Bee Association.
July: Our new nursery guinea pigs, Bubble & Squeak arrived.
August: This month we arranged for fertile eggs to be delivered to nursery to go into our incubator for the children to observe the life cycle of egg to chicken. Tilly the tortoise came to visit.
September: Diggers and tractors.
October: Oral health visitor, Hornsea Inshore Rescue.
November: Humberside Police, GP visit.
We continue to seek and secure further visits for the year ahead.
Visits we welcomed in 2025 include:
The Fire Brigade, Ladies in Pigs, Tractor week, Dr Sienko, The Oral Health Team, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Nursery Photographer.
We enjoyed supporting the Christmas Tree Festival at St Nicholas Church in Hornsea and designed our own Christmas cards with Mini Me designs and had them printed off for our families to enjoy.
Dingley's Promise Mark of Achievement 2026
We were very proud to obtain the above achievement following the commitment of our whole nursery team in completing several training courses each on inclusion, demonstrating our teams dedication to transforming the lives of the children with SEND through inclusive practice.
Millie’s Mark Accreditation 2026
Millie’s Mark is awarded as a special endorsement to childcare providers that go above and beyond in paediatric first aid requirements. All our staff team are qualified with 12 hours paediatric first aid level 3 qualifications. This hopefully provides reassurance for our families that all our childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.
We are delighted to have renewed this award in January 2026 which we have held since 2019.
Home Learning Activities
Our monthly home learning activities will come to you via your child's Tapestry account, or we are happy to provide paper copies if you would prefer. We would be delighted if you will take part in these activities and could post your pictures and achievements back to us on Tapestry.
National Day Nursey Association Maths Champion Accreditation
We are enjoying working through the NDNA Maths Champion professional development programme which aims to improve maths outcomes for children. We are on track to complete this in February 2027. Kristina took on the Maths Champion role with Becca supporting her as the Deputy Maths Champion. The aim of the programme is to enhance early years practitioners knowledge and confidence in supporting children's mathematical development. It covers early number sense, shape, space, measures, with developmentally appropriate teaching approaches.
Yorkshire Post Rural Awards: Educational Initiative Award
We will be attending an awards ceremony in Harrogate on 22nd October where we have been short listed for this award.
Bags of Support
We currently have several bags of support available for our families to borrow. These offer help and support with weaning, toilet training, healthy eating, Oral Health, and Promoting Positive Behaviour. Please ask our practitioners for further information. We also have a variety of parent fact sheets on topics such as biting, weaning, Safer Sleep, and ICON: Babies cry, you can cope in our nursery entrance areas.
Nursery Lending Library
At Farmyard Friends, to promote early literacy we operate a children’s lending library facility in each of our base rooms and sign post our families to: Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. All 0-5 year olds in the East Riding can join this free book scheme. By signing up your child can receive a free age appropriate book each month to inspire a love of reading.

NEW INTAKE OF CHILDREN
Many thanks to everyone for recommending our services. The majority of our children come through recommendations from current families and we cannot thank you all enough for this.
If you are considering changing or increasing your sessions in the near future please do let us know to ensure a place is reserved. Waiting list forms are also available for babies who require a place next year. Please let us know, even if the baby isn’t here yet.
